Massive New Braunfels development to break ground next week
An ambitious development project near New Braunfels is set to break ground next week, ushering in the first phase of a massive development along Interstate 35.
SouthStar Communities’ planned development, which will include housing, parks, schools and space for businesses on more than 1,800 acres just outside New Braunfels, will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on April 12.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place just weeks after the New Braunfels City Council approved the first phase of the project. That first phase will encompass about 387 acres and include 1,532 homes, a school, a recreational center and 99 acres of public parks.
Over the next 15 years or so, SouthStar plans to build about 6,000 homes, more than 300 acres of public parks and a 160-acre business park. There will also be over 120 acres of mixed-use development and more than 70 acres of commercial property. The new development will also include four schools in the Comal Independent School District and more than 35 miles of trails.
The project, dubbed Mayfair, will be located east and west along I-35 north of the Town Center at Creekside Crossing shopping center.
